Since you\u2019re here anyway, though, you might as well learn the history of tattoo removal and how we got where we are today.<\/p>\n

Way, Way Back in the Day<\/h2>\n

Of all the\u00a0adventurous travel destinations\u00a0<\/a>on your bucket list, many of them likely have a history of tattoos and their removal. Unfortunately, the tattoo artists in the 6th century\u00a0weren\u2019t as caring as Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 who got Rihanna to walk around with a tattoo stenciled on her arm before making the permanent marks. When you asked\u00a0really\u00a0<\/i>old school artists for a tattoo, it was happening immediately.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, removal wasn\u2019t nearly as quick. During the 6th century, tattoo removal instructions included cleaning the \u201cstigmata\u201d with resin of terebinth and niter. No \u2013 we have no clue what these ingredients are \u2013 but you can surely Google them if you\u2019re motivated. The important point to remember is that these were essentially witch doctor treatments that didn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n

The Renaissance of Tattoo Removal<\/h2>\n

If you were searching to find multiple ways to remove a tattoo, texts from the 17th and 18th centuries would give you the most hope. Keep in mind, though, that having a bunch of options to choose from doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019ll\u00a0get rid of that drunken holiday tattoo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pirates, societies in the New World and indigenous populations around the world were getting tattoos like wildfire. Unlike our modern mistakes, though, these people could be killed for their ink. Yeah \u2013 seriously. Instead of doing this, though, a New World explorer\u00a0described trying<\/a>\u00a0\u201ca hundred remedies\u201d to remove tattoos from Native American children.<\/p>\n

These methods likely included scraping the tattoo, stretching the skin and even chemical burns. Unfortunately, these pricks didn\u2019t specify which \u201chundred remedies\u201d they tried, so we probably had to try them all over again. Modern Tattoo Removal<\/h2>\n

Jonathan “JonBoy” Valena is at the forefront<\/a>\u00a0of the \u201cmicro tattoo\u201d trend \u2013 which includes tiny tattoos that are barely visible and likely never need to be removed. If you went all out in the size department, though, you\u2019ll be looking at modern method\"Picosures for removing that ink.
