Platelet-Rich Plasma in Androgenic Alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is a pretty common issue we see in clients. It sounds like a very fancy term, but it’s simply a form of hair loss. It affects both men and women, and this particular hair loss shows up in very defined patterns. Because of this, it’s commonly referred to as “male-pattern baldness”.

You may have seen androgenetic alopecia showing up in the lack of hair on your friend’s head–or you may even be experiencing it yourself.

The hair loss usually begins above your temples, then recedes with time. Otherwise, it thins starting at your crown, then starts to thin out on other places on your head. The good thing is, thanks to science and your own blood cells, there’s hope!

Although there are many ways to perform hair restoration, PRP or Platelet-rich plasma, seems to be one of the most effective treatments. PRP is a type of regenerative treatment that we perform on those who suffer hair loss.

Scientific Studies on PRP

Because the thought of cell-injections seems to some to be pretty sci-fi, you should know that there’s been a lot of research done on this type of hair growth therapy.

Doctors at the Santosh Medical College in India documented their studies in the Asian Journal of Transfusion Science, recording the remarkable beneficial effects that PRP had on their patients. Also, there weren’t any major adverse reactions in the treatment of androgenic alopecia.

In their study, patients were given the PRP injections over a period of 3 months. At the end of the treatments, they saw huge improvements in hair growth. The conclusion? PRP seemed to be a good, affordable solution to androgenic alopecia, and there were no major adverse effects.

Another notable study in PRP effectiveness was published in the Journal of cosmetic dermatology, by Elghblawi Ebtisam MD, a Libyan Amazagh researcher.

In 2017, she wrote, “(PRP treatments) restores natural beauty …and also emerged to include hairs as a new injectable procedure to enable stimulating hair growth locally and topically; preventing its fall; improving hair shaft, hair stem, and its caliber; increasing its shine, vitality, and pliability; and declining hair splitting and breakage.”

Getting Your Hair Back with PR

Your platelets are the cells responsible for stimulating hair follicles and essentially making our hair grow. But no one is perfect, and even many celebrities and famous beautiful men suffer from hair growth. Those in the movie industry, for example, have had to turn to hair therapy to achieve a fuller head of hair.

Whether genetics or Androgenetic alopecia, hair loss is pretty common in men, even as young as mid-20’s and 30’s. Don’t feel bad or embarrassed if you find your scalp thinning, or a weird balding pattern beginning to show up. And don’t think you’re doomed to live as a bald guy for the rest of your life! (Unless you prefer the look, of course!)

If you want to get a PRP treatment, you’ll come in for an evaluation. This is to examine your balding pattern and problem areas. Then, some of your blood will be drawn and placed in a centrifuge.

We extract and then isolate the red and white blood cells. During therapy, the PRP will thicken the thinning hairs, speed along the healing process, and release vital growth factors. It’s a quick and painless procedure, with each session a mere 20 minutes.

Along with the PRP treatments, our team will help you achieve more hair growth goals naturally. Our hair cleansing and grooming products, including hair restoration products and hair restoration shampoo, are designed by the Barber Surgeon’s guild to give you exactly what you need to look and feel your best.
