Pride in Your Work Feature Profile – Carson Nicely

Pride In Your Work

Carson Nicely lives live in front of and behind the camera lens. His work as an actor has taken him to the sets of The Hunger Games: Catching FireOther HalvesNocturnal Animals and CONfessionals. He even played recurring roles on Conan O’Brien’s late-night show from 2014 to 2016.

Carson pours all of his acting talent into every gig he lands, but he doesn’t let his acting life get in the way of his passion for photography and videography. As a man who takes great pride in his work, he has learned how to balance the two creative forces that drive his career. If you see him around town, either heading to a film set or exploring L.A. on his motorcycle, he almost certainly has a camera nearby.

Carson grew up in Tennessee. These days, though, he spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where he has more opportunities to pursue his goals in acting and photography. When given a chance, though, Carson will hop on a plane to see other countries. He loves visiting new places so he can experience the people, the culture and, most importantly, the food.

One of these days, Carson would like to host a travel food show that takes his audience around the world to discover wonderful meals, snacks and drinks enjoyed by distant cultures. Considering how dedicated he is to putting his creativity into every project, it seems inevitable that he’ll reach his dream.

Looking at Carson’s list of accomplishments, it’s amazing to think that he has only been active for about a decade. He’s not the type of man who sits around waiting for the big break. He’s out there, combing the city with his motorcycle and camera for the next project that will spark his passion for creativity.

How would you describe your grooming routine, and what is your goal?

My grooming routine is pretty basic, as I don’t like to take too long to get ready. A good hair wash every 2-3 days but conditioner every day. I style my hair with a matte paste or wax to give it some hold without it being rigid.

What does your typical day look like, and what do you do to make it productive?

My typical day is up in the air! I could be on set from 4 a.m. til midnight or I could be doing photo shoots on location in Malibu. I stay productive by keeping apps on my phone that let me work on the go. It’s a must

How did you choose your career and why?

Being an actor and a photographer is potentially the best job ever. We get to go to the most beautiful locations meeting the coolest people in the world! I started this career right after college and haven’t looked back.

The BSG battle cry is Pride in Your Work. What does that phrase mean to you?

I take pride in my work, by working as hard as possible on every project. Everyone has different creative views, and I do my best to take those concepts to mold into something awesome.

What are your personal and professional goals right now?

My professional goals for acting is to be a recurring character on a network show by the end of next year. For photography – I would love to travel to different countries documenting the food/hotel/landscapes of all the coolest places.

As far as personal – I’m making it a strong point in my life to learn that you can’t take care of anyone until you take care of yourself.

If you could talk to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give?

Get a mentor. Learn as much as possible from them, and to take more risks!

What are the most important things you do to make yourself more appealing to a potential partner?

Laugh. There’s comedy all over your life. If you think everything bad is happening to you…take a step back. You’re probably in a comedy movie.

What’s the most played song in your library?

Run the Jewels – Call Ticketron

What’s something you recently bought that changed your life?

A motorcycle. It’s so freeing to be able to get out of LA and ride the PCH. You’ll never understand how good that feels until you do it yourself.

What designers, artists, trend leaders or other people are you inspired by?

I’m wildly inspired by Elon Musk. He just doesn’t take no for an answer. He constantly fails and stands by that, as a learning opportunity for his next attempt. It’s an incredible feat to keep up.
